Hailey blankly stares across the man at the table, confused and shocked. There is a thick pile of papers on a large mahogany table in front of her with large red letters written on top; INVOICE. The fancy office fixtures with heavy emphasis on bronze and mahogany offers stark contrast to Hailey's muted beige dress. She twirls her curly auburn hair and tightens her grip as if shes about to yank them out.
Youve got to be kidding me right? Why am I being invoiced on my brothers?! She barks and fist slams on the table.
I Horton, son of Benton, grandson of Garlog of Peace Lake, hereby pass my entire ownership to my sister Hailey and her family should I no longer walk this land. The man across the table sternly reads a small letter in his hands then puts it down on the table after finish reading. His face is overshadowed by the back of the chair by a beam of sunlight overhanging from a large window behind him.
Miss Hailey, when your brother disappeared, all he left behind the company is this letter and this means all that he owes us, you owe us. he coldly replies and slowly nudges the stack of invoice towards Hailey with her brother's letter on the top.
"This is ridiculous, I don't have the coins to cover my own life and now his?" She places her other hand over her hair tugging at the other side of her hair with her jaw tightly shut glaring at the stacks of paper.
When was the last time you saw him? He adds, eyes glancing down at Hailey through the lens.
Two months ago? She frantically scratches her hair with both hands.
Look mister She drawls as she squints over the bright light.
MacKlaus, He replies promptly.
Yeah, mister MacKlaus, I dont have such coins to cover his invoice at all and frankly
Frankly, Miss Hailey, if you refuse to pay on his behalf, I would have to take more forcible measures. I'd prefer to take this in a more civil manner." MacKlaus's cold gray eyes boars at Hailey's dark olive eyes.
Ive been told you are looking for some work and this could be an excellent opportunity for you to miss Hailey. MacKlaus chimes in quickly with a thin smile, taking a slight pause.
Yes, and no thats not the point of this talk mister, I am not taking his responsibility in uh.. mismanagement of his coins. She sharply retorts as she returns her gaze back at him and shoves the pile of invoice back at him. Hailey pushes herself against the table to stand up.
"Ten platinum pieces for your work." MacKlaus says dismissively as he slowly gathers the pile of invoices. Hailey stops immediately and blinks several times as the words sink in.
Do you have any idea on where he would be other than the Astral Seas? Apparently he is absemt in that realm the last time we checked, fortunately. He asks cooly as he leans back on his chair with his hands interlocked.
Well the last time I saw him was when he was telling me he would be going to noth for some new business with a friend of his. Hailey stiffens and there's a twitch on her lip.
Perfect, how does ten platinum sound if I hire you to go after him and bring him back? You wont be needing to pay his invoice and youll be pocketing some coins if you bring him back alive. He replies snappily and claps his hands together.
Sounds like you already had a reason to bring me here and my brother is just an excuse. Whats really on your mind mister MacKlaus? Hailey narrows her eyes and places both of her hands on the table, giving a moment as her eyes dart around the room. The room is brightly lit but the furnishing has a very dark tone due to choice of mahogany with elegant elven design and various portraits of impeccably dressed men and women sternly looking back at whoever is looking at them.
